This is because you want people to be attracted to the creative pieces, not the shirt that you are wearing.
Keep in mind, you should shower and smell decent before this type of event. Also, do not put on too much perfume or cologne. You want the people around you to be able to breathe and able to concentrate on what they came to look at.
